Employees of Bank of Rajasthan (BoR) will go on a three-day nationwide strike from tomorrow in protest against the proposal to merge the bank with leading private sector lender ICICI Bank.
All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) General Secretary Vishwas Utagi while talking to UNI claimed that Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Securities Exchange board of India (SEBI) had observed several irregularities in the bank transactions. The Bank had even attracted a penalty of Rs 25 lakh from the RBI for violation of its guidelines.
He said neither the RBI nor SEBI had taken any action against Bank's chief promoter Praveen Kumar Tayal.
He alleged that Mr Tayal had resorted to the merger move to settle a loan account he held with ICICI Bank. Till the third quarter of last fiscal, the bank had been showing profits but suddenly it slipped into loss from the last quarter, by making several provisions in the balance sheet.
AIBEA demanded a thorough Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the loan account of Tayal with ICICI and also the deal.
He also wanted the RBI and the the Centre to stop what he termed as unwarranted merger.
